Time to stand still on New Years Eve 2008

Well just as we all start to get ready for the end of 2008, we seem to have found ourselves in a very unique position.

According to the following article I just read in the Tasmanian Mercury Newspaper Time to stand still on NYE, 2008 is about to get an extension.

The International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service (IERS) in Paris has ordered that 2008 be extended — by one full second, to be precise.

Which means a champagne-soaked countdown to 2009 will go something like this: “… THREE, TWO, ONE-AND-A-HALF, ONE … Happy New Year!”

So enjoy the added second of time guys as you party away the night, and please don’t blink, as you could miss it!
