The me who homeschools is excited about the upcoming events we have scheduled for our learning over the next few weeks at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery- TMAG!
We will be going to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery on the 15th of July for an educational experience called ‘Clash of Cultures’.
Clash of Cultures explores the history of white and black interaction in Tasmania which is is far from black and white. It covers difficult topics such as the meaning of Country, invasion and war, from freedom to exile and recognition. The children will engage with the issues in a contemporary way using digital cameras to produce a poster that demonstrates their over all understanding of the themes presented to us. This sounds so exciting and I am confident that it will be a great day.
On the 16th of July we will be again visiting the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. This time will be for an educational experience called ‘Hobart Town Journey’.
Hobart Town Journey explores a number of questions like…..
Why was Sullivan’s Cove the preferred site for Hobart Town in 1804?
How did English settlement impact upon Tasmanian Aboriginal people?
What was life like in the first decade of Colonial settlement? …………….. and many more questions of interest!
The children will get the chance to take on character roles while they work around a large floor map of Sullivan’s Cove. It will be their role to set up camp and commence building a town. They meet the mild Maria Lord and the brazen Hannah Power and learn what life was really like!
