Home Ed Excursion – TMAG Clash of Cultures

During our Home Ed excursion today at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery we explored the ‘Clash of Cultures’ and history of white and black interaction in Tasmania. The children then engaged in using digital cameras to produce a poster that demonstrates their over all understanding of the themes presented to us. JAHG and her two friends explored the topic ‘Meaning of Country’. The poster below is their end result!

I Dream the Dream & I Wish the Wish

I dream the dream of happiness,
I dream the dream of hope,
I dream the dream of life beyond the city sky and smoke.

I wish the wish of contentment,
I wish the wish of vision,
I wish the wish of life beside the gentle swaying slopes.
~ KAGolab

I wish and dream of a life together, sharing, learning, working and supporting each other. Mothers, fathers, Sisters, Brothers, Sons and Daughters.

Horror day hits Tasmania.

Well I must say that yesterday was one of the worse days on record (according to the Mercury Newspaper) that our State has had in 20 years for our Road Toll. The unfortunate events that took place, has taken our road toll to a number higher than was recorded for the whole of 2008. I can not express the sorrow and pain I feel, which will be nothing compared to the families and friends of those who lost their lives, yesterday and in the past to become part of this shocking reality. I send my condolences to you all and may those who died now rest in Peace.

I must say having to be out and about driving yesterday was also worrying me for. I had to go out to Molesworth for the day, towards the hills and places where the traffic is less. This however brought about its own concerns. We would not be traveling on roads with a lot of traffic, but we would be traveling on ice covered roads that few other cars have been through before us.

It took me around 30 minutes to de-ice my car yesterday, before I could even think about going anywhere. Multiple buckets of water, that when poured over the car windows, started to freeze slightly. My hands ached with the cold of the wind and air, they turned bright red and I had to come inside at one stage to warm them up in order to be able to move them again. Our Trip to Molesworth was slow and steady, well below the speed limit. You see it’s not the ice on the roads that worries me the most its the black ice, that you can’t even see. Caution is all I could do to try and ensure a safe trip… I had fingers crossed that others valued their lives just as much, and would take similar precautions with their speed and driving habits…

Earlier in the morning I had stepped out onto my veranda and fell straight down onto my Bottom, Such an unexpected event. I did not consider as I left my house that my veranda would have enough ice to cause a problem. As I reached towards the door to leaver myself up, PLOMP! Again I slipped on the ice and fell down. This time I almost crawled to the Lounge room door to get back inside, to avoid the fear of a repeat performance. Some 24 hours later and my bum still hurts! But Thankfully I am alive and well. Unfortunately others are not.
