Today was all about activity, and a sense of accomplishment. You just have to love life when you child has a great day and feels a great sense of achievement. JAHG took on the task of assembling a dinosaur today all by herself. She did the most part unassisted but had a little divine guidance once or twice. The result was a wonderful Styracosaurus and one happy girl!
Well we have enjoyed our two weeks of time away from formal school activities and now it is time to start again for a fresh new year.
The children were eager to start getting stuck into work and even though they seem to have enjoyed their free time, they also look forward to some kind of routine again.
Today we signed up for Mathletics and Spelladrome. They are online programs that the children use in many schools around the world to teach maths and spelling. JAHG had used mathletics before when she was in mainstream schooling and has often spoke about it. As a member you have the opportunity to do activities based online, challenge yourself with others around the world, or just play against the computer created players.
JAHG is very good at maths for her age, but does not have a lot of confidence in her own abilities, so we are hoping that this program will not only make it fun for her in her learning, but also help us track the areas where she is having difficulty more often. The system gives the children rewards, certificates etc for their work achieved and only
focuses on the positive aspects of learning, so we are hoping this will encourage JAHG to learn and have fun with Maths. She has been told that she can use the computer to play mathletics or spelladrome as often as she likes. We are hoping this too will encourage her to play for fun aswell.
I guess I should have started this at the beginning of the New Year, but I didn’t. So rather than wait for another year to pass I have decided to add this to my list of challenges for 2009. Starting today.
I loved the idea of having an image that represents each day. The only problem I had starting off was deciding what to keep an eye out to photograph. With that in mind I decided that this first photo would be the right one to use for day 1 of my 365 project. I feel it adequately depicts the struggle I had in deciding just what to photograph!
Well I did it. I actually missed a day. Yesterday was so busy for me that by the time I remembered that I needed to take a self portrait the day was over. I could cheat and add a picture from today in yesterdays place, but what good would that do? After all, I would know it was not a true reflection of me on that day. So here I am just moving on, having missed one day and determined not to give up.
This photo is of me in our computer room (not that you can tell), It is not a very good one, but none the less it is me. It is so hard to be able to take photos of yourself and be happy with them, especially when you are over weight like I am. But I am hoping that as the year progresses and this challenge does too, that I will be able to see some changes in myself and hopefully my weight too, as 2009 is my year for changing how I do things, and that includes my eating and exercising habits. Lets hope that by self portrait 365 we can all see a remarked improvement not only in my photography, but also in myself!
Well to be able to love life, we all have to have things we hold dear and cherish. Sometimes, as time moves on, these things are not always with us all the time.
As I usually do I stopped today to admire the handprint my son had given me a number of years ago, it sits with pride on my bedroom bookcase. He is 12 now, but still he will always be my little man (not that he would like to to call him that! I am sure…).
Love life because those who you love are in it, every moment counts and every memory brings that moment back to you again and again.
