Thank you for a Merry Little Christmas!

Dear Santa,

Thank you for a Merry Little Christmas, Even though it wasn’t White. We had the most Merry Little Christmas, In sight!

The sun was shinning brightly,
The elves were far away,
The presents were wrapped delightedly,
And then we came out to play!

We smiled and glowed with pleasure,
At everything we seen,
Our words beyond good measure,
As Santa Clause had Been!

So we were very excited,
That Christmas day was here,
As we were just delighted,
And gave a great big Cheer!

Our wish to those far away,
Is that Santa came to you,
And brought you lots of presents today,
And spoilt you rotten too!

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

Christmas Eve

Well here we are. Already it is Christmas Eve and we are all getting excited about Santa coming tomorrow.

I have been busy cooking lots of food for the big Christmas Day dinner. Some of it is Polish food, which is SZG’s favourite. It’s only going to be SZG, the Girls and I tomorrow for the big event, but still we are sure that it will be a great day regardless.

Already I have made Kotleti and a Salad Nanny usually makes for us. I also have to organise the Barszcz which is Beetroot Soup a few other salads and the meats we are having, we will probably add to the meal some Gołąbki, – Cabbage Rolls as these are ready and waiting for us right now. SZG was given a big ham on the bone from his work for Christmas, so by the size of it we will be eating it for weeks not days! We have the usual Christmas cake, pudding and brandy cream all ready for the occasion. If I have enough time I will also try and make some shortbread, but with time the way it is I think I am definitely going to run out of time before I get a chance to organise that.

SZG has gone shopping today, to do his Christmas gift buying. He has always been the same, leaves it to the last day or two before the BIG day. I am not sure if that’s because he hates this time of year, or because he just keeps putting it off until another day, but he is braver than me going out in the last minute rush of the season to get what he wants to buy. This year I think he went with a mental list of items he wishes to purchase, which is a lot more oganisation than he has had in the years gone by.

Me, well I have finished all my shopping. We had a very strict and tight budget this year, so I have tried to be creative in my purchases and have managed *I think* to find gifts that everyone will enjoy when they eventually open them up. I was also orgainsed enough to be able to send parcels over to Victoria and Poland to make it in time for the BIG day, which is unusual for me.

Even though we had a much tigher budget than usual for Christmas, I must say that I enjoyed shopping this year much more than previous years go by. It is great to think that this is one of the first years that I can actually say that *I don’t think* SZG has any idea of what I have bought him for Christmas, which is a real achievement as usually I buy him what he wants, rather than buy him something I would like to buy for him. So I guess it’s not far away now to learn if he truly likes what we have got for him. Anyway, I better be off and get started on organising Christmas Eve Dinner, so that a little later I can relax with the rest of the Family and enjoy the Carols by Candlelight on TV.

Wrapping up the year – with 2 weeks holiday.

Well as we all know Christmas is right upon us, so much so that we are starting to wind down for the week of Christmas. Our usual homeschooling activities will be put aside for a short while as we just ‘enjoy’ Christmas and New Year Week. In the coming weeks we will not be doing any formalised learning, so all the writing, spelling, journaling, maths, science art etc will be out the window and the children can just concentrate on having fun. We will (as any homeschooling family knows!) still be learning through a lot of fun and exciting activities over the next few weeks, so even though the children think they get a holiday, we all know different!

It is only the manner an emphasis on how they learn that will be altering this week, as each day and each experience is a learning one for all of us, so they will continue to learn and prosper even when they think they have having a vacation from school!

This past week has been a very interesting one. Since the start of December NIK has been very adamant and scared of the big red jolly man that many of us call Santa Claus or Father Christmas. So much so, that when I took the girls to have their picture taken with Santa Claus NIK flatly refused and hid behind my legs in order to avoid the event. JAHG however was happy to have per picture taken and along with Nanny, who was visiting at the time, she had her picture taken with Santa Claus and was very happy.

Fast forward to Yesterday, when NIK suddenly decided that ‘Santa not scary me no more mumma -  me have picture santa?!?’ JAHG and I said ‘what!’ and NIK repeated her request. Well as life has it the children where not dressed for the occasion as it was warm yesterday and I had given them a treat of a chocolate ice cream and in the warmer day it had melted quicker than NIK could eat hers, so she was covered from head to toe in Chocolate Ice Cream and not a pretty sight to be having her picture taken with Santa.

So I have promised her that we will go see Santa early next week and have her picture taken with him, she is now all very excited and each time she sees Santa around and about she has been asking for a ‘picture with you’, I am sure that Santa himself does not quite understand why a three year old would have to ask him for a picture with Santa when he would probably assume that most Mumma’s and Tata’s would take the children to see him to have the picture taken with Santa. So early on our agenda next week we will be going into NorthGate shopping centre and getting NIK’s picture taken with Santa, she wants JAHG and Nanny to be in the picture with her, but only JAHG will be, as poor Nanny had to go home to Victoria to be with Poppy, so is no longer here and able to join in.

Anyway apart from NIK now being ‘not scared’ of Santa, we have also managed to spend a few hours with Tata at his work Yesterday (Saturday). The children enjoyed this experience very much. We took him dinner as he was going to be at work until very late (as usual), and we wanted to let him know that we appreciated the hard work and effort he put into working so that we can enjoy homeschooling and life in general. JAHG asked a few questions about Tata’s work and why he was using different forms to do different tasks. At one stage the girls did some drawings for Tata so that he could keep them at work and be reminded of them. Kids can be so sweet.

Other things we did this week included our Christmas Party with Hamlet and our Lovely friends in Branxholm, the Bridgewater State Library Christmas Party, Josephine finished her Summer Reading Challenge, and we all have a fun week.

We will be all organised After Christmas and New Year to get Stuck into Our New year of Schooling. I am very much looking forward to the Challenge of teaching NIK to write and learn to recognise her alphabet and numbers by sight and hopefully with her numbers be able to recognise the words associated with them.

I also look forward to working with JAHG on her writing skills, which she enjoys and also her Maths as we want to build up her ability to multiply and use her times tables!

Here are some more picture of some fun things we have been doing in December!

Hamlet the Reindeer – A Christmas Event.

Today we travelled from Hobart to Branxholm for a Family Day Care Christmas Party with our Friends, and I must say that the four hour drive there was well worth the fantastic day we had. The two family Day Care Ladies put on the most Fabulous Event, one that we are so pleased we did not miss.

We set of at around 7am to drive to Branxholm in the North East of Tasmania. It is a small quiet country town full of interesting and friendly people. We used to live there, for a bit, when we first came across to Tasmania to live. However, work and life seen us move to Hobart, closer to accessing jobs and services.

But Today we enjoyed a day of fun, friendship, fine weather, along with Hamlet the Reindeer and some very cherished friends.

Thankfully the weather was great, not like what we had left behind in Hobart. The Children were all excited at having their Christmas Party. They were all playing on the toys at the park and the adults were all busy chatting to one another, when suddenly Hamlet (a miniature Shetland Pony) dressed up as a reindeer, walked with his owner into the park area were we were all enjoying time together and brought behind him a small cart full of Christmas Present and Lollies.

The Children were all very excited to see Hamlet and to receive their gifts. they were extra spoilt with each one receiving a Certificate detailing a strength / talent or positive aspect about them along with their Christmas gift and Lolly bag.

The afternoon consisted of a sausage sizzle, rides around the park in Hamlets Cart and lots and lots of fun!!!!!
