Lazy Saturday Day

Today was not a very eventful day. It was nice for SZG to have a day off work and be able to spend some quality time with us all. We enjoyed it very much. We chatted over breakfast about our week and what everyone had been up to. The children love this especially when they don’t get to see their Tata everyday as he generally leaves for work before they awake and gets home after they go to bed.

We managed to watch a little TV together another daily activity we all used to do together that has been put on the back burner now that SZG is working in his new job and the hours are very different.

Apart from  that we did not get up to much at all. just a nice family day at home, enjoying each others company.

That time of year again…

Well, here we are heading into that time of year again. Each year it just seems to get sooner and sooner. I am not sure if it is because I am getting older and older each year, or because the shops just keep commercialising everything, as soon as Father’s day is over, the Christmas decorations etc all seem to make their way into the shops!

It’s incredible and absolutely amazing, I recall when I was growing up the festive season started in December each year. This was the day you put your Christmas tree up and decorated it. Well with things the way they are at the moment with financial issues and money being so tight we have decided that we are going back to basics, the things we actually loved about Christmas and making it a wonderful experience were we make a lot of the foods from scratch, bring in opportunities for us to enjoy doing activities together as well as making Christmas decorations and presents as well.

The emphasis is all back on the experience and giving rather than receiving. This has to make our Children and us better people as time goes by, and also help to create a nicer Christmas atmosphere for all. So our Christmas 2008 season begins with us researching our traditions, Both British / Australian ones and the Polish Christmas traditions. Our aim is to find a way to mesh them both together to create the ‘Gołąb Family Christmas Experience’, which we can begin this year (Rather than having a more Polish or British Christmas experience on alternative years) and hopefully carry on into the future.

Firstly I think Christmas will begin with traditional foods added to the Christmas table. We are in the process of collecting traditional recipes from our earlier Christmas experiences and trying to find a way to create the perfect Christmas day meal with a blend of both cultures added and not a lot of waste or double up of foods available. Once we have a list of traditional British / Australian recipes and Polish we will work our which ones we will continue to move forward with. Maybe we will choose to keep them all just in smaller quantities! We are also looking at devising a Christmas Menu of foods to be eaten over the Christmas Eve,  Christmas Day times. Polish traditions say we have no meat on Christmas eve. only Fish (traditionally carp). Most of us don’t eat carp, so i think we will stick with the no meat rule, but leave the carp out.

Secondly we will be celebrating Christmas eve and Christmas day with equal emphasis, Something we usually don’t do it’s either Christmas eve one year and Christmas day the next.

So the fun begins, over the next few weeks leading up to December we will be busy making Christmas presents and decorations and refining how we will experience our Christmas 2008 in a blend of Cultural ways.

Our Bond Returns

We have finally received our bond back today from the house we were renting in Branxholm, almost two weeks after we handed in our keys. Usually you are supposed to receive the bond back within 3 days of handing the keys back into the real estate agent, but for some reason the real estate agent did not do this for us, so it was not until I called them yesterday and complained about having not received it, that they went OOPS! and finally got around to doing the final inspection on the property and sending us our money.

Thankfully it’s all over now and we have the bond returned in full, as we always have. I must say it will be nicer when I actually get it to the bank and put it into our account. I am a little sad though as it brings back to my attention the Town of Branxholm, a beautiful and friendly community of people and a town I just adored living in and felt so part of the place… Guess it’s now time to make some cement tracks here now and build our life in Hobart, which is somewhere we are very content to also be for the long haul.

Tasmania…. there is just something magical about it!

Would you believe it?

I just could not believe what happened today. It was when I went to get the mail I seen an envelope from ‘BREEZE’ the new tolling company in Melbourne Victoria.

Upon opening the letter that I was astounded to see that they had sent us a toll bill for our old registration on our Hyundai Trajet UEP7*4. Apparently the toll was inured in August 2008, well after we had handed in our plates for the vehicle on the 24th of July 2008.

So I thought I would do the right thing and notify ‘BREEZE’ that we no longer had those plates as we had moved interstate and changed the car registration  over in July 2008 to another state, well before the alleged travel took place. The not so friendly person at ‘BREEZE’ told me that it was my bill and that according to Vicroads we owned the license plates attached to the car so we were responsible. It seemed that the person on the other end of the phone was not willing to be polite, let alone helpful.

After getting of the phone to ‘BREEZE’ I called Vicroads, who confirmed that the registration of the said vehicle was cancelled. they suggested we supply ‘Breeze’ with the paperwork to confim we handed the plates back into Service Tasmania when we transferred the car registration over.

So now I have to find the little piece of paper Service Tasmania supplied me with stating I had handed over the plates to prove that we are not responsible for the said licence plates that were used to go on the toll way in Victoria. What a nightmare. I wish the WHOLE of AUSTRALIA would link things like licenses and license  plate registries together to avoid instances where people are left supposedly still having ownership of something even though they have surrendered and handed them into another state.

Lets juts hope that after moving house I am still able to find the very small piece of paper that stated I had handed in the licence plates of my victorian registered vehicle when I reregistered the car in Tasmania.
