100 Aspects of Everyday Life.

100 Aspects of everyday life. This means I have to take 100 photos of an every day activity / aspect or everyday life experience.

I LOVE the idea of this challenge to take the everyday and make it interesting. I guess as time goes on and I take more pictures the everyday SHOULD get to be more creative, I guess only time will tell. Things like, doing the dishes, washing on the clothes line, washing the car, cooking, etc are all everyday life experiences, I wonder how interesting I can make them!

As I work from taking shot number 1 to 100, I will try to capture a wide variety of everyday activities and hopefully grow in my creativity and photograph along the same time. But most of all I just want to have FUN!

Keep looking here for my 1 to 100 images of everyday life.

Christmas is coming, quicker than we think!

Well the shops have truly started to get busier in the lead up to Christmas. I see that our local Coles supermarket now has their countdown how many days to Christmas Calender that tells us all in great big numbers how many days we have left before the big event.

Also our Local Kmart store has their Wishing tree up and loads of gifts already under it that people have put there for the less fortunate and Target also has their gift giving tree up and ready with gifts underneath to be passed onto those who are considered in need.

Every where we look Christmas is in front of us. Trees and decorations already hanging. Hobart is already advertising their annual Myer Christmas Pageant through the main street of Hobart, which is set to go ahead tomorrow, on Saturday the 22nd of November.

Personally I feel that it’s amazing just how non Christmassy it feels with all this Christmas stuff around. This coming week in the lead up to December 1st (the day we send / post  out our Christmas cards) we will be writing all our best wishes and Christmas cheers for the festive season. We will also be looking at the Christmas tree in preparation to its decorating on the 2nd of December. Usually we would decorate the tree on the 1st of December, but as SZG has to work on that day we will be doing all the tree and festive decorating the next day on the 2nd of December when he will be home and able to enjoy the process with us all.

Christmas present shopping will soon all be bought, wrapped and sent if necessary to those who are to receive a gift from us. We have almost got everyone sorted, with ideas for gifts all organised.

Roll on 2009! when the Festive season will be all but over and a new year will dawn!

Photographic Challenges – 2009

Well I have always had a real interest in photography, but it is something I have only ever done for pleasure, but as my interest grows and my age also I have decided to try and do more with my photography and try to challenge myself in what I actually take pictures of.

So as we head towards 2009 I have started to search high and low for some interesting themes for photo shots. I was absolutely amazed at how many different ideas people had come up with, in order to challenge themselves and their photographic abilities.

So I have decided to try and challenge myself also. I am going to start a small number of photographic challenges and see if I can not only extend the number of things I photograph, but also the creative ways I do it.

So to start me off I have decided that the best place to start is with myself. I loath having my photograph taken, but I have found the perfect challenge to try and get me over the fear and hate I have for being photographed and hopefully allow me to get more comfortable not only taking photographs, but in being photographed also.

So here is a list of the long term challenges I am going to start in 2009

Short Term Monthly Challenges

  • January 2009 – 31 Reasons to Love Life
  • February 2009 – 28 Days of Food
  • March 2009 – 31 Beautiful Buildings

Long Term Challenges

  • The 365 Days Self Portrait Project – This means I have to take a self portrait of myself each day for 365 day! Sounds, Simple, but probably isn’t! – Starting 2nd January 2009
  • 100 Aspects of everyday life. This means I have to take 100 photos of an every day activity / aspect or everyday life experience.
  • A 2009 Homeschooling Experience in Pictures – This means I have to take photos during 2009, depicting our Homeschooling experience, what makes it interesting, fun and the right choice for us!
  • 100 People – This means I have to take pictures of 100 different people (with consent) and add them here. Now lets see how many interesting characters we can meet!

Over time other challenges or projects will be added, so keep an eye out for what I am doing, how I am going and what I am photographing!

Education, Homeschooling, Home Education, Learning!

Deciding how and where to educate your children can be one of the most challenging decisions you are likely to make about your childrens life, their education and their ultimate life experiences.

As a parent I am sure that we all want what is best for our children, I know we do for our own. We try to ensure they eat healthy all the  time and get as many vegetables into them as we can, we limit the amount of rare or occasional food and drinks they receive and we also strive to provide them with the best educational experiences we can afford.

Over the years, we have tried a variety of educational experiences with our older two children, ranging from state schools, in two different states of Australia, catholic education, private education at independent schools and home schooling. Each educational experience has brought with it a multitude of wonderful experiences and often a number of horrible ones too. The one thing we have learn is that it does not matter how much you do or don’t pay for education, each educational experience has both good and bad aspects and each experience is different, just like each child is different. So for us choosing how to educate our children has become a series of choices based on up to date information and learning patterns of our uniquely wonderful Kids.

Regardless of how you choose to educate your children, may they have the most wonderful and fulfilling educational experience possible.

Currently our oldest child is home schooled – After a number of horrific and disastrous incidents within the catholic and public school systems, we withdrew him from the school he was attending and registered him for Homeschooling. He has been home schooled since May 2006. This seems to be the ultimate educational experience for him and the making of a wonderful and confident young man, a far cry from what he was becoming when being educated in the state and catholic systems.

Our middle child is in the process of being temporarily home schooled for the month as she is ‘on holiday’ from the school she is registered at. This has occurred due to a variety of reasons, and her school has been notified appropriately. Soon though we are to make a decision about her education and what she will be doing next year in 2009. Will we remove her from the public system and register her for homeschooling? or will we enroll her in our Catholic school of choice here in our home town? Only the next few weeks to a month will tell. This is where a real decision needs to be made by us her parents in consultation with JAHG herself.

Our third child is not of school age yet, she is however very interested in reading, writing, drawing etc. So we have decided that we will work with her at home, doing age appropriate work. This should feed her natural curiosity and assist her to continue to build upon her natural curiosity. In 2009, if we were still living in Victoria, she would go to 3 year old Kinder, but there is nothing here for that. So we will home school her for three year old Kinder and then reassess her progress and individual needs this time next year to see if we will continue to home school her in 2010 or put her to school for four year old kinder.

So our journey continues….. the choices we make today will forever affect the people our children will be tomorrow. May we please be blessed with the ability to adjust our choices when needed and to know when a change must occur.

Brighton Show

Today we had a family day out at the Brighton Show, just up the road from where we live.

Even though the weather was a tad windy and looked like it could possibly rain, we set out on our day of adventure.

The children loved going on the few rides they chose. Both girls went with ME on the Ferris Wheel. Usually I like these kinds of rides, but it was not until we got up in the air, that I realised just how windy the day was and had I realised before I put us all into the seat, we probably would not have gone on the Ferris Wheel. Thankfully the children enjoyed the ride, NIK was a little worried at times and wanted to get off, but JAHG really enjoyed it. She also liked the views from above. We could see the hole of the Show Grounds from high up top.The girls also went on a number of other smaller rides, and enjoyed them also.

We visited the sheep shearing, checked out the animals, looked at the old engine display and other tractors, fire engines etc. For lunch we enjoyed a Rotary Sausage sizzle and the girls got to buy a show bag each. Personally I could not believe the cost of the show bags and the amount of junk in them, as real waste of money in my book, but the children wanted to get one, so they did.

Thankfully we all had a wonderful time and enjoyed the day out. It is always nice to be able to go and do things as a family and experience quality time together…

Next week we look forward to going to the Hobart Botanical Gardens to for a picnic in the gardens and a look through Government House as they have an open day. Should definately be worth while…
